The Philadelphia Eagles have dealt with a revolving door at the cornerback position over the past two seasons.
During that span, Jalen Mills, Ronald Darby, Sidney Jones, Avonte Maddox and Cre’Von LeBlanc have missed multiple games due to various injuries.
In fact, the only durable member of the crew has been Rasul Douglas, who has constantly been a last resort for the coaching staff for whatever reason.
With Darby and Mills set to become free agents next summer, the Eagles will need to make some alterations to the lineup. Jones’ injury history and the rest of the group’s uneven play may force the Eagles to make a bigger investment in the position in the offseason.
That’s why The Draft Network’s Jonah Tuls thinks the Eagles will nab a cornerback in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Tuls has the Eagles selecting Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo with the 14th overall pick.
That draft positioning is based on the team’s current 2-2 record.
Here’s what Tuls said about the Adebo pick:
“Cornerback play has been the Achilles heel for the Eagles through one quarter of the 2019 NFL season. Quite simply, the group gives up too many big plays. Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas have been mightily inconsistent, Ronald Darby cannot stay healthy, and the list goes on. It’s time for a change, and Stanford’s Paulson Adebo has as much upside as any cornerback in this class.”
Adebo is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback. The junior defensive back is already off to strong start this season, as he has produced 19 tackles, five pass breakups and an interception in five games.
While Adebo was held out of action as a freshman, he had a strong sophomore campaign. He produced 44 tackles, 24 pass breakups and four interceptions in his debut season.
If Adebo were to come to Philadelphia, he would be joined by former Stanford teammates, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Nate Herbig. He would also compete with Douglas, Jones, LeBlanc and Maddox for a starting spot.
