CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — You're down to seven days of Christmas shopping and don't forget filling those stockings.
Locally owned business City Chix Boutique is following the trends of trying to give people what they are looking for this holiday season at her location at 1102 Railroad Ave. in Portland.
City Chix is a small boutique that sells clothes, jewelry and kitchen goodies. According to executive manager Carrie Doreck her business like many others was impacted by the pandemic.
“It was very hard because City Chix here we had to shut down," she said. "We were not an essential business.”
Doreck also manages Boots n Britches in Corpus Christi. She says online sales and social media has helped increase revenue this holiday season.
"They’ll call, we get it all wrapped up and if they're not comfortable coming into shop we have it ready to go and they just pick it up curbside,” said Doreck.
One item helping increase sales this year is personal protective equipment or PPE, like masks and gloves.
“I found some that were the right size so of course I went for Christmas too because we got to wear them all for a while," City Chix boutique customer Melanie Schmidt said.
So, when the seasons change, buyers can choose to match their face coverings to their outfits and can even find accessories for the winter with a pair of gloves.
Those gloves can also be accessorized with outfits, Doreck said.
“It has the pieces that you can touch your phone with and it also comes with a cute little pouch and hand sanitizer for $40, so what is a great stocking stuffer,” she said.
There are various patterns, colors and themes to choose from and customers say they are buying them as a way to make a statement.
“Kids got their own style and we’ve got our own,” said Schmidt.
Other personal protective equipment that have become popular during this pandemic are key-chain touch tools which can also be used as a door opener, lanyards that can be alternatively used to hold your mask and hand sanitizer that doesn't smell like alcohol.
