Pinson Valley suspended football workouts on Friday after learning that the family member of a player has COVID-19, according to a report in the Trussville Tribune.
“We’re going to take the precaution of being out for a few days,” Pinson Valley head coach Sam Shade told the newspaper. “Going back through our protocols to make sure that we’re doing everything that we need to do to make sure that our student athletes are safe. We’ve been doing that, but you still want to be extra careful.”
Shade told AL.com that he expected to resume workouts on Monday.
On Friday, Saks High announced it was suspending workouts after a positive COVID test. Principal Jody Whaley announced he is closing the school for two weeks. That includes the track, fields, stadium, gym, etc.
Whaley said the Health Department is interviewing each person that the student-athlete may have come in contact with recently.
Other state teams have reported players testing positive for the coronavirus, including Muscle Shoals, Albertville, Arab and Chelsea. Lexington briefly halted workouts earlier this week but returned Wednesday after a student-athlete’s test came back negative.
