DUSU Election 2019 Voting Today: Delhi University Students’ Union Election 2019 will be held today i.e. 12th September 2019, as per the official schedule announced earlier. Students from both North Campus and South Campus colleges of Delhi University as well students of various Departments and Faculty of the varsity will participate in the voting to be held today. According to tentative estimates, around 1.3 lakh students are expected to exercise their right to vote during the DUSU Election 2019 today.
Security Heightened across both Campuses
After seeing a fierce campaign in both the campuses, security has been heightened at all polling stations. Earlier, on Wednesday, polling centres at various locations in the university campus were being readied for the voting scheduled to be held today. EVMs were received at various polling stations and security arrangements heighted following it. A total of 52 polling stations have been commissioned across the campus to host over 1.3 lakh students, who are eligible to cast their votes during the DUSU Election 2019 Process.
Counting of Votes on Friday
According to DU Chief Election Officer Ashok Prasad, after the completion of polling exercise today, all the EVMs will be delivered under tight security to the Community Hall at the Police Lines in North-West Delhi’s Kingsway Camp, which will serve as the counting centre for DUSU Elections 2019. Counting of Votes will take place on 13th September 2019 – Friday.
Key Candidates
As per the information provided by the University, a total of 16 candidates are in fray for the four key posts on offer via the DUSU Election 2019 i.e. President, Vice-president, General secretary and Joint secretary in the students' union.. Of the total number of candidates, only four candidates are women. The key players in the DUSU Elections 2019 include: RSS affiliated Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress backed National Students Union of India (NSUI), Leftist students group. All India Students Association (AISA).
In terms of key candidates, ABVP has fielded Akshit Dahiya for President’s Post, who will go face-to-face against NSUI’s female candidate for President’s post Chetna Tyagi. Left-affiliated AISA has nominated Damini Kain for the top job. The details of key candidates from different parties or groups is listed below
