A Tinley Park man has been charged after accidentally shooting his friend in the face with what he thought was an unloaded handgun, police said Wednesday.
The shooting occurred early Sunday at a home in the 8400 block of South Brookpoint Court, and police said that Robert Cannon, 18, who lives in the home, was hanging out with friends when he pointed the gun at one of them and fired one round.
The friend was initially taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox then transferred to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment, where he is in critical condition, police said.
Police responded to the home at 12:06 a.m. and Cannon was later charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct, according to police.
The firearm belonged to Cannon’s parents, according to police Chief Matthew Walsh. No other information on the victim was available.
Cannon was booked into Will County Jail Monday with bond set at $10,000, and released that evening, according to jail records.
