SALT LAKE CITY — A new fire that sparked near Minersville in Iron County on Friday evening grew to more than 1,300 acres by Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, firefighters are continuing to gain containment of the Dollar Ridge Fire in Duchesne County, which is the largest fire of this season thus far.

Currently, nine active wildfires are burning across the state, according to Utah wildfire officials.

Cove Creek Fire (20 miles north of Beaver) grows to 90 acres

The lightning-caused wildfire that sparked Tuesday has grown to 90 acres, fire officials tweeted Saturday. Officials said the fire is 0 percent contained. Currently, no structures are threatened and no roads are being affected by the wildfire.

Crooked Creek Fire in Sanpete County 5 percent contained

A wildfire that ignited Wednesday and had burned 178 acres as of Friday is now 5 percent contained, Utah Fire Info tweeted.

Horse Valley Fire in Iron County expected to be contained by Saturday evening

The Horse Valley Fire, burning at 1,300 acres about 10 miles south of the town of Minersville in Iron County, was 80 percent contained as of 3 p.m. Saturday, officials said. Utah wildfire officials expect the fire to be fully contained by 8 p.m. The fire was lightning-caused and started about 7 p.m. Friday, officials said. No structures are threatened and no injuries have been reported.

FINAL UPDATE- #HorseValleyFire is now 80% contained and is expected to be 100% contained at 8pm today. Confirmed to be lightning caused and is holding at approximately 1,300 acres. Crews will remain onscene tomorrow to extinguish remaining hot spots. #CCDHowell

Dollar Ridge Fire in Duchesne County is 84 percent contained

Nearly three weeks after the Dollar Ridge Fire started, the blaze is 84 percent contained, officials report. The fire has burned just under 57,000 acres, or 89 square miles, and is burning east of Strawberry Reservoir. Firefighters made progress Friday along the southwest border of the fire, according to Utah wildfire officials. Thunderstorms are expected in the area of the fire on Saturday.

The Beaver Creek subdivision remains evacuated, and County road 11500, Strawberry River Road to the county line, and Timber Canyon Road to the Forest Service boundary are open to residents only.

Lightning-caused fire in Sanpete County is 130 acres

The Crooked Creek Fire, burning north of Fairview in Sanpete County, has burned 130 acres, or about .2 square miles, as of Saturday morning. The fire started on Wednesday and is 0 percent contained, according to Utah wildfire officials. Cloud cover and cooler weather on Friday helped firefighters fight the blaze, but it is burning in conifer forest that generates extreme heat, officials said. Several roads are closed in the Manti-La Sal National Forest, including Forest Roads 138, 1178, 1048 and 1049. Some trails in the area also are closed, including Forest Trail 0053 from the Forest Boundary to the junction with Forest Road 0138 and Forest Trail 048 from the Forest Boundary to the junction with Forest Road 1178, officials said. People traveling for the holidays should be aware of increased traffic and should use caution when traveling in the area, officials said.

Horse Valley Fire in Iron County grows to 1,300 acres

A new fire south of Minersville in Iron County grew to 1,300 acres, or about two square miles, as of Saturday morning. The fire sparked about 7 p.m. Friday about 10 miles south of Minersville, according to Utah wildfire officials. It is currently about 10 percent contained. The fire is not threatening any structures and no evacuations are in place. No injuries have been reported. About 80 firefighters are assigned to the fire, including five engines and a helicopter, officials said.
