July 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in Delaware have formally charged a Pennsylvania man with murder after he was arrested last month following a three-week crime spree prosecutors say may only be "the tip of the iceberg."

Keith Gibson, 39, on Tuesday was formally charged with 41 felonies, including two murder charges, an attempted murder charge and several assault, robbery and other charges.

"This indictment lays out one of the most vicious, staggering crime sprees I've seen in my career," Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings said in a statement.

Authorities said the crime spree began in the state May 15 when Gibson is accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old Leslie Ruiz-Basilio during a robbery at a Metro PCS store in Elsmere, a Delaware town just outside of Wilmington near the borders of Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

He is then accused of fatally shooting 42-year-old Ronald Wright and assaulting another victim during a street robbery on June 5 and then assaulting two more people and attempting to kill a third over the next three days before being arrested June 8 in connection to a robbery of a Wilmington Rite-Aid.

However, Gibson is suspected "in multiple murders committed in Pennsylvania earlier this year," the Delaware Attorney General's Office said.

According to authorities, Gibson was released from prison Dec. 20 after serving a 13-year sentence for a conviction of manslaughter and firearms-related charges.

In February, his mother, Christine Gibson, was fatally shot, a crime for which Keith Gibson was charged with murder in Philadelphia on June 16 following his arrest in Delaware.

He has also been accused of fatally shooting 41-year-old Christine Lugo, a manager at a Dunkin' Donuts shop in North Philadelphia early June 5, the same day he is accused of killing Wright in Delaware. Charges have also be laid in this case, in which authorities said he robbed the store of $300 before shooting Lugo dead.

Jennings said the charges in her indictment are made even more disturbing based on the indictments in Philadelphia.

"This may just be the tip of the iceberg," she said. "We have assigned some of the [Department of Justice's] most experienced prosecutors to this case and we will ensure that this man faces justice for the senseless carnage that he has caused."
