Halloween costume-clad suspect jailed in Auburn assault

Detectives identified 19-year-old John David Wood as the suspect in a Nov. 1 assault in Auburn. He is charged with a felony crime.

An Auburn teen has been charged with a felony a crime after police say the suspect – wearing a Halloween costume – punched another young man who was walking down the street.

Auburn police responded about 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 to East Alabama Medical Center on a report of an assault. Officers learned that about two hours earlier, a male dressed in a costume approached an 18-year-old male and punched him in the face as he was walking in the 500 block of West Magnolia Avenue.

The victim, said Capt. Lorenza Dorsey, was treated for serious injuries.

Detectives identified 19-year-old John David Wood as the suspect. He was arrested on Wednesday and charged with second-degree assault.

Wood was booked into the Lee County Jail with bond set at $25,000.
