IOLA (WLUK) -- An event that brings thousands of people to the small town of Iola is canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Organizers announced the cancellation of the 2020 Iola Old Car Show and Swap Meet on Tuesday. In a news release, organizers wrote:

The monumental task of producing this world class event is heavily dependent on the thousands of volunteers who aid in this effort. We simply cannot produce the show without the ability to ensure the safety, confidence, and comfort of all involved – and everyone’s safety is our top priority. It is also impossible to predict what measures and mandates may be relaxed or removed by the time of the show.

Instead of the car show, organizers are planning a Rally for Iola on July 11. That would include a drive through the show grounds and a street cruise.

Additionally, organizers hope to be able to hold the swap meet and flea market later in the fall.

Exhibitors and campers who have already registered will be contacted to discuss their options.
