10,000 expected at Kuching Christmas mas Parade

KUCHING: Some 10,000 participants from the Methodist Church, Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Baptist Church, Sidang Injil Borneo, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Salvation Army and Churches of Kuching Ministers’ Fellowship will take part in the annual Christmas Parade today (Dec 5).

The aim of the parade is to spread the message of peace and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with the people of Kuching.

This year’s parade theme is ‘Jesus is Our Hope’.

Church members will sing Christmas carols such as ‘Silent Night’, ‘Joy to the World’, ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’, ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’.

Some will also be dressed in colourful costumes depicting the Nativity as Joseph and Mary, the angels, shepherds, and wise men from the East.

There will be performances by shofarists, native drummers, tambourine dancers and musical bands including six from the
Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade.

Participants will be giving away Christmas gifts, balloons and tracts as gifts to the public as a gesture of goodwill and sharing.

Some churches are also presenting colourful Christmas floats.

The around 4km route will be from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Jubilee Ground to Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahim (Waterfront), Lebuh Temple (Harbour View Hotel), Lebuh Wayang (Medan Pelita / Star Cineplex), Jalan Tabuan (Ting & Ting Supermarket / Borneo Hotel), Jalan Ban Hock (Grand Continental Hotel / MBKS flats) and back to MBKS Jubilee Ground.

Traffic will be affected from 7pm to 9pm by the parade, and the road near the MBKS Jubilee Ground will be restricted to
traffic from 5pm to 10pm.

All parade participants are advised to assemble at the MBKS Jubilee Ground, which is adjacent to Chung Hua Primary School No.3, at 6pm.

Praise and Worship will be at 6.30pm before the parade begins at 7.15pm, with distribution of gifts to the public at 8.15pm before returning to the MBKS Jubilee Ground at 9.30pm.

All parade participants are advised to prepare Christmas gifts.

The churches from Kuching Ministers’ Fellowships include The Blessed Church, Good News Fellowship, Grace Assembly Church, 611 Kuching, Calvary Family Church, City Harvest Fellowship, Trinity Community Church, Hope Church Kuching, Latter Rain Church, Amazing Grace Church and Summer City Church.
