Gov. Beshear announces mandatory mask order for Kentucky, effective 5 p.m. Friday

With new COVID-19 cases rising in Kentucky, Gov. Andy Beshear announced new public safety requirements during his 4 p.m. Thursday press conference. 

Mandatory mask order in effect 5 p.m. Friday

A mandatory mask order has been announced for Kentucky, Beshear announced.

The executive order, signed Thursday, starts at 5 p.m. Friday, July 10, and is in effect for 30 days. Beshear said it will be enforced by local health departments.

"It's no longer a question," Beshear said on the effectiveness of wearing a mask to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Exceptions will be kids under age 5, people with breathing health problems and people exercising while social distancing. 

Kentuckians will have to wear a mask in places like grocery stores and businessees, as well as outside if you can't be six feet away from someone.

333 new cases, 4 new deaths reported

Beshear said 333 new cases were added, bringing total number of coronavirus cases to 18,245 in the state. There were four more deaths reported, bringing total of deaths to 612.

Northern Kentucky total cases at 1,853

Twenty-five new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported in Northern Kentucky Thursday, bringing the new total to 1,853, according to the Northern Kentucky Health Department.

No new deaths were reported, the website stated as of 4:55 p.m.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department states there are 387 active cases of COVID-19 in Northern Kentucky on Thursday, and that a total of 1,388 patients have recovered from the virus.

  • Grant County: 62
  • Kenton County: 835
