Church donates over 120 fruit baskets to Madison Co. Sheriff’s Office

JACKSON, Tenn. — More than 120 fruit baskets were brought to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Thursday morning.

“It’s sweet. It’s special. It’s unexpected,” Tom Mapes, spokesman for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, said.  “It’s just a joy. It’s just something special.”

Members of the Antioch Baptist Church in Humboldt delivered the baskets.

“Madison County Sheriffs (deputies) patrol our area here and we wanted to do something to say thank you to them,” church member Jack Joyner said.

Joyner says the idea started in Gibson County. Antioch Baptist heard about it and thought it would be a great way to give back.

Several churches, including Antioch Baptist Church, came together to donate more than $1,800 to get the baskets.

The baskets are going to any and all uniformed deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Joyner also says that it’s just a small token of gratitude for people who put their lives on the line every day.

“Other than Jesus Christ, it’s only our military and police that voluntarily give their lives for us,” Joyner said.

Joyner says he hopes this helps spread just a little Christmas joy.
