VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A 56-year-old man was fatally struck by an SUV Monday night on Northampton Blvd. in Virginia Beach, police say.

The crash happened in the 5800 block of Northampton Boulevard around 7:45 p.m.

The SUV driver stayed at the scene and the victim, 56-year-old Aubrey Dion Parker of Virginia Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed the driver of the SUV was heading south and struck Parker when he attempted to cross travel lanes outside of an intersection or crosswalk. No charges are pending at this time.

All westbound lanes of the road were closed at Baker Road as of 8:25 p.m., police wrote in a tweet. The road reopened to all traffic by 11:15 p.m.

This is the same intersection where local boxing legend Purnell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker was killed while crossing the street in July 2019.
