A manhunt for a gunman ended in a field in Delafield on Friday when tactical officers surrounded the man wanted for shooting two police officers.
News Chopper 12 was over the scene as 23-year-old Nathanael Benton approached police with his hands up and then showed his waistband.
He then laid down on the ground and was arrested.
No one was injured in the arrest.
Benton was taken to the Waukesha County Jail, where he awaits formal charges.
A Delafield resident reported seeing him in the far southeast corner of the city.
Delafield police Chief Erik Kehl said both officers, one from Delafeld and one from Hartland, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
They have not been identified but were expected to survive.
The Delafield officer is as "well as can be expected," Kehl said.
He was taken out of trauma care and was talking with his family and other officers.
Police said officers responded at about 1:40 a.m. Friday for a report of a possible hit-and-run at the Holiday Inn Express in Delafield.
That is off I-94 and Highway 83.
Kehl said that when officers arrived, they confronted Benton and there was an exchange of gunfire.
It was unclear if the suspect was hit.
Police said Benton was last seen running southbound from the scene.

Shortly after 4 a.m., Delafield residents received an emergency alert that asked citizens to avoid the area of Highway 83 and Golf Road and for residents in the area to shelter at the lowest level of their home or business until further notice.
The Delafield police chief said two other people, a man and a woman from Indiana, were taken in custody.
They were with Benton at the time of the shooting, but they were not involved in the shooting.
Kern said they did not try to run and went willingly with officers.
Their names have not been released.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department will investigate the officer-involved shooting portion of the incident.
The Pewaukee School District has closed schools for the day.
There will be no in-person or virtual classes Friday.
The campus was closed and the buildings were locked, the superintendent said.
