TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction 2022 on Wednesday offered four sustainable resilience concepts in facing systemic risks of all forms of disasters, a pandemic included.
The first concept involves investment and funding where he offers countries to invest more into science, technology, and innovation, which includes guaranteeing to access to funding and transfer of technology.
“Access to funding is an important aspect that must be handled seriously,” said Jokowi at the Bali event on May 25.
Jokowi then informed that Indonesia had developed a disaster insurance and funding strategy by establishing a pooling fund which was launched last year under the issuance of Presidential Regulation No.75/2021 concerning the Joint Fund for Disaster Management.
The second concept is to strengthen and prioritize anticipatory disaster preparedness culture and institutions while the third concept is to build infrastructure resilient to disasters and change. Jokowi also said that green infrastructure such as mangrove forests and green open spaces should also take top priority.
The fourth and final concept Jokowi offered is the implementation of global agreements to be run at the national and local levels, such as the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals upon reducing risks from disasters and climate changes.
