CHERITON, Va. (WAVY) – Cheriton Chief of Police Marc Marshall, the department’s only employee, has been placed on paid administrative leave by Mayor Larry LeMond.

LeMond tells 10 On Your Side he put Marshall on leave Aug. 17, but he would not disclose any reason for the decision citing a “personnel issue.”

Marshall was hired as police chief when the department was formed in September 2017, according to LeMond.

“There is an ongoing internal investigation,” said LeMond, who would not confirm if town officials or another entity is leading the investigation.

Virginia State Police are not involved in the investigation, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

LeMond says deputies from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office will assist in patrolling Cheriton until the investigation is complete.
