‘Spring Car Cruise-in & Eats’ coming to downtown Sturgis

Sturgis Downtown Development Authority event coordinator Ryan Conrod is inviting those interested to come out and enjoy the return to warmer temperatures with a downtown event this Friday.

“Spring Car Cruise-in & Eats” is 5:30-9 p.m. Friday (May 13) in downtown Sturgis.

The event features a classic car cruise-in. Conrod invites those with a classic car to bring it out for the event. Downtown parking spaces on U.S. 12 are reserved for the cars. No sign-up is required.

And if you don’t have a classic car, come out and see them, Conrod said.

“It’s fantastic to see all those cars,” he said. “It adds color and people to downtown. It definitely draws intrigue from people driving through town.”

The event also will feature the unveiling of “Art Around Town 2022.” Flyers with locations of artwork will be available at Open Door Gallery. Those will be helpful, Conrod said, since there are three new locations this year. Three pieces of work have been added to the lineup, for a total of 16. (For artists and their work, see below.)

Also on Friday, food trucks will be on Pleasant Street. Acoustic musicians will be outside and there will be pinata making at Open Door Gallery. Conrod said the pinata making is not a make and take event. The pinatas will be used for the Hispanic Heritage Celebration that will be held the Friday of Sturgis Fest week this year.

Classic car shows will continue through the summer in downtown Sturgis. They’re typically tied to a monthly event during the first half of the month, Conrod said.
