Man Suspected in Burglary of Laguna Beach Exotic Dancewear Store Arrested

Over $1,400 worth of merchandise and cash was taken in the May 26 burglary

A man suspected of stealing over $1,400 worth of merchandise and cash from a Laguna Beach store that sells exotic dancewear was arrested Wednesday, police said.

Reese Westenberger, 53, was booked into Orange County Jail after officers recognized him in surveillance video of the May 26 burglary inside Delicate Illusions on South Coast Highway, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.

"During the initial investigation, officers reviewed surveillance video from inside the store and recognized (Westenberg) as the perpetrator," Laguna Beach police said in a news release. "A crime bulletin was distributed throughout the police department listing Westenberger as a suspect in the case."

When recognized by a bicycle patrol officer Wednesday on Laguna Canyon Road, Westenberger attempted to flee arrest by running away, prompting officers to chase him. Shortly thereafter, he surrendered and was taken into custody. He denied any involvement in the crime, police said.

Westenberger was booked on charges of burglary, grand theft and vandalism and was being held on $25,000 bail.
