NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP >> When Chopt Creative Salad Company opens at the Village at Newtown on June 9 it will be making its Pennsylvania debut.

The New York-based business, which  serves fresh salads and salad bowls marketed as global street food, will open its doors in a 2500 square foot space located next to Ulta and just across West Road from McCaffrey’s Market. It will boast 50 indoor seats and another 36 outdoor seats located on a raised patio area overlooking West Road.

Chopt has 65 locations throughout the east coast, the majority located in New York but also with locations as far south as Tennessee and Alabama.

According to Justin Gould from Chopt, the eatery was started in 2001 when salad was not a main component of the meal.

“We started doing something bold and we continue to do that today where we offer great fresh options for lunch, dinner and everything in between,” he said. “We have fresh chopped salads and 18 homemade dressings. We also offer a suite of warm bowls of cauliflower, rice and grain.”

The eatery will be staffed by 12 employees who will be managing the shift, the highest volume of customers expected during lunchtime.

“We are thrilled to bring this to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. And this being our first spot here, we can’t wait,” said Gould.

The new eatery will fill a void in the shopping center created by the closure of Saladworks at the far end of the shopping center.

“Making Newtown a little bit healthier as we go along. Sounds great,” said Newtown Township Supervisor Phil Calabro after voting to approve the use in 2021.

The community is invited to an exclusive preview of Chopt on Wednesday, June 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7:30 p.m. To participate, you’ll need to order ahead for pickup on the Chopt app or at choptsalad.com. One hundred percent of the sales that day will benefit the Neighborhood Outreach Foundation.

The Neighborhood Outreach Foundation is made up of a group of community volunteers who realized that there are folks in the community who, through no fault of their own, have fallen upon hard times.  Tragedy and challenges happen in life.  Folks need immediate help.  Many agencies are slow to respond.

The foundation is able to provide aid quickly, as it is notified of the need from neighbors or school nurses and social workers. It has provided many forms of assistance, including medical expenses, food, utilities, eye care and rent payments, just to name a few.

The foundation depends on the generosity of the community, through fundraising and donations, to acquire the money needed to help those in need.
