Georgia nears 300K confirmed COVID-19 cases

State reports 2,265 new COVID-19 cases, 24 more deaths

The Georgia Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported 24 additional deaths related to COVID-19.

Six of the newly reported deaths were recorded in Southeast Georgia — three in Ware County, two in Glynn County and one in Pierce County.

As of Wednesday, Georgia’s total number of coronavirus-related deaths reached 6,419.

The state Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported an additional 2,265 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of those cases, 68 were reported in the six Southeast Georgia counties tracked by News4Jax.

As of Wednesday, a total of 299,056 confirmed cases had been reported by the state Department of Public Health.

According to the state Department of Public Health, more than 2.65 million tests had been performed in the state, which had a 10.3% positivity rate, as of Wednesday.

On Wednesday, an additional 219 hospitalizations were reported.

County-by-county breakdown for Southeast Georgia

Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, breathing trouble, sore throat, muscle pain, and loss of taste or smell. Most people develop only mild symptoms. But some people, usually those with other medical complications, develop more severe symptoms, including pneumonia.
