CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County recorded its fewest new cases of the coronavirus in two weeks on Tuesday. There were 20 new cases of the coronavirus reported in the county on Tuesday, the fewest since there were zero cases reported on July 20.

That number had been climbing since that day, as there were 55 cases reported the following day and as many as 88 on July 26, according to the county’s website. On Tuesday, officials said young people were driving the new cases.

“Over the past two months we have seen the average age of infected persons in Camden County drop from approximately 47 to approximately 31, underscoring the reality that young adults are driving the spread of this disease,” Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “We are seeing similar trends play out across the country, but house parties and other large gatherings are significant factors in our state’s recent uptick in cases. Although we are extremely fortunate that this virus does not seem to be as severe when infecting young adults, we need them to step up and help control the spread of coronavirus so that others can be protected and our region can move forward with reopening our economy.”
