Carrying on a 40-year tradition in nursing education, the University of West Georgia's (UWG) Tanner Health System School of Nursing (THS SON) provides education for those pursuing or advancing their careers in healthcare. Whether just getting started in the field or a veteran nurse, the programs at the UWG's THS SON are designed to prepare graduates to meet the evolving healthcare needs within the global community. The Caring Science curriculum model, integrated into the curricular frameworks, places caring collaborative relationships at the center of all programs and is designed to create a culture of caring. Our caring philosophy and framework is a unique feature reflected in all of our courses, and students are supported through caring groups.

UWG's world-class faculty of nursing professionals prepare the clinicians, leaders, researchers, and educators who will make a difference in the future of healthcare. Our faculty are passionate about teaching and are here to make your educational journey a pleasant and rewarding experience.

Today, about 500 students are enrolled in the school's professional programs – including 40 EdD students, 100 MSN students, 80 RN to BSN students and 310 BSN students. Completed in 2013, UWG's start-of-the-art building on the Carrollton campus received the Award for Design and Technology from the University System of Georgia. Added two years later, the Newnan facility includes a 9,000-square-foot state of the art nursing suite. The school's bachelor of science degree in nursing is approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing, and the BSN and MSN programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

EdD in Nursing Education

Our EdD in Nursing Education program is an innovative approach designed to increase the number of doctoral prepared nurse educators. Graduates of the program will be in a position to conduct nursing education research, thus furthering the science of nursing education . Within an asynchronous 100% online format , students are offered opportunities to engage in work-life balance practices during the pursuit of their doctoral degree. Students develop strategies for successfully engaging in learning as a community of scholars. This scholarly doctoral community is promoted through feedback from caring faculty who are invested in students' learning and the future of nursing education .

Master of Science in Nursing

Our Master of Science in Nursing program is designed to prepare Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Leaders, and Leader/Managers/ Administrators to assume positions in a variety of healthcare settings. Courses may be completed in four semesters of full-time study or on a part-time basis. Post MSN certificates are also offered.

MSN Nursing Education Track The nursing education track is a program of study that addresses innovations in curriculum, instructional skills and strategies, the development and use of educational technology, and educational assessment and evaluation. Students will develop expertise in health education and promotion, patient education, professional development, or college/university teaching.

MSN Health Systems Leadership (HSL) Track The health systems leadership track has two options: the nurse manager/leader option and the clinical nurse leader (CNL) option. The leader/manager is prepared to assume the role of nurse manager, nurse leader, or nurse administrator. The CNL is a role designed by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2003) to prepare leaders who are accountable for management of care and the care environment. The CNL curriculum prepares graduates to function as CNL's as well as assume many nursing roles, such as a patient outcomes expert and quality improvement officer. HSL courses address patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, pharmacology, case management, client-care coordination, holistic health assessment, care of diverse populations, health policy, health systems, business and economic concepts, statistics, leadership and management, quality improvement, risk management, and public/community health.

RN to BSN

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for registered nurses is for individuals who are already licensed as registered nurses. The program is offered 100% online and prepares registered nurses for professional advancement and offers interactive learning through an asynchronous online environment. This program is a student-friendly, 17 credit professional curriculum over two semesters.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Our undergraduate program offers a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree at both locations. This program features a unique concept based nursing curriculum that emphasizes the art and science of nursing, building from a strong foundation in liberal arts, sciences and humanities. A six-semester professional program is offered on the Carrollton campus and an eight-semester professional program is offered on the Newnan campus.
