Coronavirus in Mississippi: Cases rise to 320 with Tuesday report

As the coronavirus outbreak continues in Mississippi, the number of cases rose by 71 to 320 in 58 of the state's 82 counties.

Choctaw, Newton and Noxubee counties reported their first cases of coronavirus.

The Mississippi Department of Health reported no new deaths. The state still has one death reported, in Hancock County.

Two-thirds of the state's cases are female. About one-third have been hospitalized.

In Louisiana, 1,388 cases and 46 deaths were reported as of Tuesday. 

As of Tu, Alabama's cases stand at 196. Tennessee is reporting 615 cases with two fatalities and Arkansas has 206 cases.

The Health Department updates the number of cases once a day. Results are from testing done by the department and private laboratories.

The U.S., which confirmed 46,450 cases and 593 deaths as of Tuesday morning, behind only Italy and China in reported infections. 

Confirmed cases, however, are a function of testing. Worldwide cases of confirmed coronavirus are at 392,331 as of Tuesday morning, and there are at least 17,156 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University data dashboard.
