DRUMMOND ISLAND, MICH. -- Combine the classic Up North rustic escape with a deserted-island dream, and you'll get this Michigan real estate listing: A private, 15.75-acre Great Lakes island with a cozy cabin, situated at the gateway to one of the best freshwater cruising destinations in the world.
Gull Island is tucked away in Sturgeon Bay off the coast of Michigan's Drummond Island in Lake Huron. The island is just a short distance from the North Channel, renowned for being a boating paradise.
The island is currently listed for sale with Drummond Island Realty for $549,000. The price was dropped from $599,000 earlier this year.
The seller, Tim Van Every, has owned the island for 22 years. Van Every says it's almost like having an entire kingdom to call your own.
"To me, the attraction is the absolute serenity, and the peace and quiet," he said.
The island sits just a few miles off the coast of Drummond Island -- about 10 minutes by boat, Van Every says -- where one can find marinas and amenities like gas and groceries.
The property's home is a 1,600-square-foot cabin, built in 1969, with an open floor plan, stone fireplace and knotty pine details.
Other features include a 20' x 24’ boat house for storage, a 14-foot fishing boat and 27-foot barge (converted from a pontoon for ferrying large items to the island), and a crib dock.
