Herbert E. Okins, Jr.

Okins, Herbert E., Jr. 87, residing in Minnetrista, MN passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2019. Herbert and his twin brother Robert were born on October 20, 1931 in Ruso, ND to Herbert and Mabel (Pederson) Okins. Survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlys (Kurtz); son Craig; daughters Susan (Horner-Okins) and Sheila; grandchildren Lyndsae (Steve), Chad (Tudie), Jessa (Ryan), Kyle, Ryan (Alexia); and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by Herbert and Mabel Okins Sr., son Kavin, and siblings Robert, Gayle, and Gene Okins. Herb and Arlys met at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design after his military service in the Army. Herb went on to achieve his Master of Fine Arts degree at State University of Iowa. Upon returning to Minneapolis, Herb worked for the Bureau of Engravings' Art Instruction Schools as an art instructor until his retirement. He enjoyed painting, drawing, and collage work all of his life. A service and open house will be held at the family home on September 28, 2019 from 12 to 2 p.m.
