PORT ST. LUCIE — A 26-year-old Fort Pierce man is accused of pulling a man out of his car and hitting him across the head with a sharp object, stealing two cars and leading police on a chase, among other charges.

Brandon Harvey, 26, of the 1500 block of Florida Avenue in Fort Pierce, was arrested on five felony charges and three misdemeanor charges all related to carjacking and stealing on Saturday.

Officers said at 5:17 a.m., an employee at La Bonita, a Latin market at 770 Southwest Bayshore Boulevard in Port St. Lucie, was waiting in his car before work when Harvey drove behind him in a Toyota Camry and tried to break his car door window using a bottle.

The La Bonita employee told police Harvey then opened his car door, which was unlocked, pulled him out and began to hit him on top of his head with a sharp object. The employee also said Harvey then stole his car, a Chevrolet Sonic, and drove off.

Fort Pierce police said the Camry Harvey originally was in also was stolen.

When the employee called police, officers said the employee had four cuts on the top of his head, which required stitches. The employee was taken to a local emergency room.

Harvey was arrested on charges of carjacking with a firearm or weapon, aggravated battery on a person using a deadly weapon, burglary on an unoccupied conveyance unarmed, damage property over $200 but under $1,000, eluding police, resisting officers without violence, leaving the scene of a crash involving damage and knowingly driving with a suspended license.

Harvey was taken to the St. Lucie County Jail on $425,000 bail and remains in jail as of Monday afternoon.
