Watch MI Firefighters Train in Live Fire Exercise

HEMLOCK, MIHemlock Semiconductor offered a free live fire training exercise to firefighters taking part in the Saginaw County Fire Academy on Monday.

Firefighters battled a fire in a large container, or burn box, that imitates a room in a house fire. They also worked on fighting a blaze caused by a controlled propane fire.

Not many fire academies use live fire training because of the cost of the facilities and the cost of the travel to get to the sites.

"That was really awesome to be able to be on the nozzle and see what would happen, to kind of see what fire looks like," Saginaw Township Station 1 Firefighter Morgan Phelps said. "You see pictures and everything, but it doesn't equate to actually being able to see what it's actually going to look like in real life."
