DECATUR -- Terry Lynn Sowers, 56, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away at 12:14 a.m., Monday February 4, 2019.
Terry was born in Decatur, IL on February 24, 1962 to Nancy Lee (Stolte) Sowers and Rex Lee Sowers of Decatur, IL. Terry graduated in 1980 from Mt. Zion High School. He owned and operated Terry Sowers Window Cleaning in Port Charlotte, FL for over 20 years. Terry was a lifelong Nascar, ARCA, USAC and World of Outlaw Sprint Car fan. While living in the Decatur area Terry spent most of his Saturday nights at Macon Speedway and area race tracks, many of those years driving his number 54 sportsman racecar. Terry also enjoyed attending train shows and collecting trains.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Samantha Jo Sowers (Ashley Harmon) of Marion, NC; step sons Mark Dumser of Engelwood, Fl; Mitchell Dumser (Brooke-lyn Dubois) of Tremont, IL; Step grandchildren Brayden and Brinley Dumser; Parents Rex and Nancy (Stolte) Sowers of Decatur, IL; brother Rex Sowers Jr. of Mt. Zion, IL; Sister Tami Goveia (Don Lugge) of Freeburg, IL; Nephews Jason Sowers of Denver, CO; Kyle Sowers of Fort Collins, CO; Collin Goveia of Freeburg, IL; Several loving, supportive Aunts and Uncles and 23 first cousins that he enjoyed growing up with. Preceding Terry in death are Paternal Grandparents Thural and Nellie (Camp) Sowers; Maternal Grandparents Robert and Velma Wiley; Uncle Marvin and Aunt Evelyn Sowers; Uncle Ross Sowers; Cousin Linda Wright.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 12 at South Shores Christian Church, 130 Bristol Dr. Decatur, IL 62521 at 3. Visitation will be from 1 to 3. Graveside services will be immediately following at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek, IL. Casual attire welcome.
