Fourth of July in Northeast Louisiana: Here's your guide to holiday events

The Fourth of July weekend is less than a week away, and if you're looking for something special to commemorate the 246th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, there are plenty of options.

Most of the events are scheduled for Saturday, two days before the Fourth of July. Here are a few events to help you plan your Fourth of July weekend.

Firecracker 5K 

Don't miss out on the Firecracker 5K on Saturday at the Flying Tiger Brewery, 506 N 2nd St., Monroe.

The race will start at 8 a.m. and will run through downtown Monroe. Participants who signed up by midnight June 29 will be guaranteed to receive their event T-shirt and medal. Kids ages 12 and under are free to participate but must be accompanied by an adult. However, kids will not receive a T-shirt, bib and medal without a paid registration.

Following the run, Flying Tiger will be hosting a free after party featuring live music, breakfast burrito and taco truck and a new beer release.

Monroe Downtown Block Party

The City of Monroe is hosting a series of family-friendly events throughout Saturday for its second annual Downtown Block Party. The series of events runs from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • 8 a.m.: Downtown Billiards Rib Cook-Off

  • 10 a.m.: Healthy Funroe at Flying Tiger Brewery 

  • 11 a.m.: Creator's Fair La Bella, The Palace and Palace Park, 231 DeSiard St. 

  • 4 p.m.: 4th of July Pub Crawl. Route starts at La Bella on 231 DeSiard St. and ends on Downtown Billiard's. 

  • 4 p.m.: 2 Dudes Block Party, including bottle toss competition, jumpers for kids and much more

  • 7 p.m.: City of Monroe Celebration at River Market including food trucks and local live music 

  • 9 p.m.: Fireworks on the River

Flying Heart Brewing & Pub One-Year Anniversary Celebration

Flying Heart Brewing & Pub, 204 Commerce St., West Monroe is celebrating one year in business with a party which will include a full day of live music starting at 11 a.m., including Jon Brakefield, Ian Smith, Will Maranto and the Usual Suspects and Cowboy Mouth.

Miro's 4th of July Celebration

Join Miro's, 201 Walnut St., Monroe for a celebration to commemorate Independence Day, starting at noon Saturday. The celebration includes food, drinks and live music from Grayson May, Clayton Maza, Lee Denton and Gin Mobsters.

Red, Wine & Blue

Thirsty Farmer Winery & Vineyard, 531 Louisiana 144, Calhoun is hosting a patriotic celebration from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. The celebration includes live music, food and wine.

Fireworks

The annual Monroe fireworks show will start at dark on Saturday, around 9 p.m. According to the Monroe-West Monroe Visitors Bureau, the fireworks are best viewed from either downtown West Monroe or downtown Monroe. The levee near Lazarre Park in West Monroe will be available for public viewing.
