Ethan Johnson, a graduate engineering student at Vanderbilt University, and Nicholas True, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC of Tennessee).  True was also a 2013 scholarship winner. Both students will now go on to compete for national ACEC scholarships of up to $10,000 to be awarded in October.

Nicholas True is a mechanical engineering student at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. He maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is continually named to the Dean’s List. When school is in session, Mr. True works 18 hours each week at Mesa Associates, Inc., in the Hydro Power Generation group. He works a full 40-hour week during the summer.

Ethan Johnson expects to graduate in December from Vanderbilt University with a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering and Structural Mechanics. He maintains a 3.8 grade point average and has completed a number of internships including with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He completed his undergraduate work at Lipscomb University in Nashville, where he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering.

“ACEC of Tennessee is committed to the promotion of the engineering profession from capitol hill to the classroom,” said Jerry Stump, PE, Volkert, Inc., chairman of the 2014 Scholarship Committee. “These scholarships are offered with the hope that more students are able to obtain their goals of becoming professional engineers.”
