Local caterer donating meals twice a week to Elmhurst Hospital staff

Market Table Catering & Events of Elmhurst is helping the fight against coronavirus by donating meals to Elmhurst Hospital to feed caregivers and other staff as they work to care for those affected by the pandemic.

Market Table, 130 N. York St., has pledged to provide 1,700 individually prepared meals twice a week for the foreseeable future. The business, which describes itself as an event venue and catering business, began deliveries last week. Providing sandwiches, chips, fruit and cookies that hospital food service staff are arranging on platters for delivery to staff working in units all over the hospital.

The donations benefit anybody and everybody working in the hospital, according to Keith Hartenberger, system director, public relations for Elmhurst Hospital parent Edward-Elmhurst Health.

Hartenberger said the donation covers anyone in need of a quick nutritious meal, from the emergency room to radiology to surgery.

“This is extra and much appreciated,” Hartenberger said.

“Market Table is so appreciative to the health care providers that are in the front line fighting this horrible disease and risking their own health,” Market Table said in comments on its website. “We hope that providing some nourishment to them during these difficult times will make a difference.”

The business also encouraged other restaurants and caterers to consider supporting the hospital and other healthcare institutions. Delivery First of Elmhurst has joined the effort, donating delivery services to get the meals to the hospital.
