We love our Great Lakes.

We’re surrounded by them.

But Michigan also is home to 11,000 inland lakes, which offer plenty of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, kayaking and more.

In fact, MLive Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa put together a list of the state’s biggest inland lakes a few years ago. He noted that Houghton Lake was No. 1 in size, coming in at 20,044 acres.

“It’s also one of the most shallow large lakes, dipping to only 20 feet deep. There are 30 miles of shoreline,” he said.

With summer just around the corner, we want to know:

Where is Michigan’s Best Inland Lake?

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has even delved into the topic, selecting their Top 14 Inland Lakes in Michigan, as well offering maps of nearly 3,000 of those lakes.

For our list, we’re looking for your favorite inland lakes to swim, fish, float, boat or paddle. The only caveats are that it be a lake that is accessible to the public (no private association lakes). And no Great Lakes.

Share your favorite Michigan inland lake by using the form below.

You may nominate as many places as you’d like. Please be sure to tell us a little bit about your favorite lakes, and what makes these spots extra special.

The more details you can provide, the better. We may even share your thoughts in a future story.

For this search, like the last one for Michigan’s Best Vacation Spot, we will only be taking nominations using this form, so be sure to take a moment to fill it out.

Our nominating form will be open until 11:45 p.m. Friday May 14.

Then, we’ll be putting your suggestions into regional polls, and inviting you to vote.
