Behemoth still in light work

David Jolly's star galloper Behemoth has pulled up in great order following his fourth to Trekking in the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville on May 16 and he reports the horse remains in very light work.

"Ideally we would have loved to have gone to Brisbane and had a crack at the Stradbroke and my gut feeling is he is just starting to reach the peak of his powers," Jolly said.

"Anyway, he is just hanging around home for now, spending a lot of time in the paddock and coming in for some light treadmill work.

"Being such a big horse, we feel it will be in our best interest for when we start to crank him up again for the spring.

"With the uncertainty still of programming with the COVID-19 situation, we don't have anything set in stone for him, but we do think his main goals will be around the 1400-1600-metre trips."

Jolly will take four runners to at Morphettville Parks on Saturday and is confident he can go home with a winner.

Here is his assessment of their prospects:

Race 2 No.5 - Simply Dreaming

"You can forget her last run in the Proud Miss where she drew poorly in a tough race," he said. "She was actually supposed to run the week before but was emergency and effectively the Proud Miss became an interim run.

"She will roll forward at the start and around the Parks at 1400 metres I think she is a great chance."

Race 6 No.1 - Fulton Street

"He was supposed to run last Sunday at the Port Augusta meeting, which was abandoned," Jolly said. "His goal is the Squatter's Cup there on Sunday, June 21 so he now needs this run to help fitness-wise.

"Overall, his record says he is a capable galloper having won 10 races, but for whatever reason when we bring him to town he rarely measures up.

"One day if he does and gets the prize it certainly wouldn't shock."

Race 8 No.8 - Nordic Pride

"I contemplated scratching him because of the gate but I have my eye on a 1400-metre race next so he will need this on Saturday," he said.

"We'll go back from the gate and ride him quiet and be looking for him to finish off strongly."

Race 9 No.1 - Appalachian

"With Simply Dreaming, this is my best chance for the day," Jolly said.

"I was a fraction disappointed with him last time after two luckless runs, so I gave him a week in the paddock.

"Down in grade, there looks to be good speed on paper, I think he will run over the top of them."
