The Miami Hurricanes moved up one spot to No. 9 in college football’s AP Poll on Sunday after UM’s second consecutive idle week.

The Hurricanes pushed past Oregon, which fell from 9 to 21 after losing to Oregon State on Saturday.

Miami (7-1, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), which is No. 10 in the College Football Playoff rankings, has not played since Nov. 14 due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the team. Originally set to return this Saturday, the game at Wake Forest was postponed on Saturday due to coronavirus concerns for the Demon Deacons.

It is unknown if the Hurricanes will be able to find a new opponent for this Saturday. They still have home games against North Carolina and Georgia Tech scheduled for Dec. 12 and 19, respectively.

Updated College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday night. Miami was already ahead of Oregon in those rankings, but Northwestern was above the Hurricanes in the CFP and lost to Michigan State on Saturday. Northwestern was already below Miami in the AP Poll.

While UM is a top-10 team, their only potential path to the four-team playoff would be if either Clemson or Notre Dame slip up before season’s end to vacate a spot in the ACC Championship Game for the Hurricanes and Miami then wins the conference title after winning its remaining regular-season games.

The top eight of the AP Poll remain unchanged: Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Clemson, Texas A&M, Florida, Cincinnati and BYU.

Miami was also ranked No. 9 in the Coaches Poll, remaining in the same spot.
