Rose West, 67, is given the Covid jab 'ahead of prison staff' as obese serial killer is 'classed as extremely vulnerable'

  • Rose West, 67, was given the coronavirus jab 'ahead of staff at HMP New Hall'
  • The serial killer is obese, has failing eyesight and struggles to climb the stairs
  • West's jab comes after serial pop paedophile Gary Glitter also got the vaccine

Rose West has been given the coronavirus vaccine before prison staff because she is classed as 'extremely vulnerable', sources have claimed.

The serial killer, 67, was given the jab last week and is understood to have been given the vaccination ahead of wardens at HMP New Hall in west Yorkshire.

As well as her obesity, West has failing eyesight and struggles with stairs and is said to be paranoid about catching Covid.

News of her vaccine prompted fury, with letters only go out to over-65s about the vaccine last week.

West, who has consistently claimed her innocence, and husband Fred, abducted, tortured and raped innocent women over a 20 year period at their house in Cromwell Street, Gloucestershire, where they resided from 1972 until their arrests in 1994.

The pair even killed their eldest daughter Heather in June 1987.

Fred, who confessed the killings, committed suicide in his cell while on remand at HMP Birmingham on New Year's Day, 1995.

A source told the Sun: 'Why can't West wait until they've at least started vaccinating some over-65s who aren't serving life for murdering ten people?

'She suffered quite a bad reaction. There were lots of flu-like symptoms and she took to her bed.'

Angie Maddocks, from Essex, said: 'I'm autoimmune and been shielding since October and, no, I've not had a hint of when I'm getting the vaccine.'

Katrina Walsh, 60, who is serving life for the 2016 murder of Lancashire PR consultant Sadie Hartley, also got the vaccine.

Walsh and West are thought to have had the Pfizer jab.

Killer West piled on the pounds over the years following a much publicised love of cakes and chocolate.

In 2010, her cookbook for prisoners was revealed, including a recipe for Victoria Sponge.

It included a full tub of margarine and eight prison spoons of flour.

A government spokeswoman said: 'Prisoners are being vaccinated in line with the priority groups set out by the independent Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.'

It comes after paedophile pop star Gary Glitter had a coronavirus jab before his victims and the prison officers who are guarding him.

Glitter, 76, was reportedly among a host of elderly sex offenders who were given a vaccine last week at HMP The Verne, in Portland, Dorset.

People aged over 70 and those with pre-existing conditions should be among the first to get a jab, according to official guidelines.

Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, is serving 16 years behind bars for attempted rape, indecent assault and having sex with a child aged under 13.

The pop star has been held at The Verne since 2018 and could be eligible for parole this year.

He was first jailed in 1999 after pleading guilty to 54 offences of making indecent photographs of children under 16.

The singer was disgraced two years previously when a computer technician discovered thousands of child porn images on his laptop while servicing it.

Glitter was then jailed in Vietnam in 2006 for sexually abusing two Vietnamese girls, who were aged 10 and 11.

After being released in 2008, he was found guilty of paedophile offences for a third time in 2015 and was jailed for 16 years.
