Air Force Life Cycle Management Center and University of Dayton Research Institute will perform various technology demonstrations with a decommissioned C-130 aircraft. Eglin Air Force Base completed the transport aircraft’s delivery to UDRI’s headquarters on Wednesday, Wright-Patterson AFB said the same day. UDRI and teams from AFLCMC will use the aircraft to test technologies designed to reduce C-130 sustainment costs.

Brian Stitt, division head for sustainment technologies transition at UDRI, said the tests will encompass fuel-saving micro-vanes, 3D printing, cold spray, robotics, virtual and augmented reality, condition-based maintenance and damage repair. The effort will run for a maximum of 24 months.Â
