FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WAFF) - The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal shooting of a teen in the Mt. Vernon community on April 17.

Deputies said Gabriel Isaac Brown, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. WAFF is told the shooting occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday near County Road 232.

His body was taken to the Huntsville forensics lab for an autopsy.

Investigator Nick Brown said the man who shot Brown has been interviewed and is cooperating.

Brown said he is not in custody at this time as they are waiting on autopsy results to determine if the shooting was accidental.:

He said the case will go to a grand jury to decide if and what charges will be filed.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and 9th Judicial Circuit Attorney’s office is currently conducting an investigation into this fatal shooting.
