Pune: Property tax worth Rs 357 crore recovered

PMC rejected the proposal for property tax hike, the general body of PMC has seconded the decision. Last year, the civic body had earned around Rs 1,200 crore through property tax collections. Officials said PMC had expected revenue from property owners in the newly merged villages.The property tax collection is based on the annual rateable value (ARV). Over 4 lakh property owners are yet to pay the tax. More than 1.79 lakh tax payers have paid the tax so far.PMC has to collect Rs 1862 crore to meet its target for the current fiscal i.e.

PUNE: Over Rs 357 crore has been added to the municipal corporation’s kitty via the property tax collection in the current fiscal, a statement issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC ) said on Monday.The property tax department of PMC has collected this tax between April 1 and May 20. Over 4 lakh property owners are yet to pay the tax. Over 50% of the total tax was collected via online routes. More than 1.79 lakh tax payers have paid the tax so far.PMC has to collect Rs 1862 crore to meet its target for the current fiscal i.e. 2018-2019. Last year, the civic body had earned around Rs 1,200 crore through property tax collections. It had failed to meet the target. This year’s target has been reduced compared to last year.“We are appealing to the people to pay the tax before the May end as the civic body offers discount for the prompt payment,” said a senior PMC official.There are 8.3 lakh taxable properties in Pune, of which 1 lakh are commercial. Officials said PMC had expected revenue from property owners in the newly merged villages.The property tax collection is based on the annual rateable value (ARV). Once fixed, it does not change.
