Bahrain rout India in Beach Games
Manama : Bahrain shrugged off the defeat to Pakistan with a well-deserved 2-0 win over India yesterday at the Fifth Asian Beach Games in Da Nang, in Vietnam .
Bahrain dominated the game right from the start and took the first quarter 28-18. They then sealed the points winning the second quarter 29-20 .They face Qatar today at 12 noon in a must-win game to qualify for the next stage.
Ali Monfaredi’s victory, clinching the gold medal for jiu jitsu was lauded by high-ranking sports officials in Bahrain.
The 23-year-old promising fighter clinched jiu jitsu’s 77kg gold medal on Monday and Bahrain’s maiden medal at the Games which conclude on October 4.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar was all praise for Monfaredi’s win and described him as a highly-qualified individual who is capable of playing under any condition and heavy stress.
Supreme Council for Youth & Sport Chairman , Bahrain Olympic Committee President & Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) ChairmanHH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa also congraluated Monfaredi on his achievement.
