Heaver rain is expected to leave the Corpus Christi area about noon Thursday.

Thursday morning, about 2 to 3 inches of rain had fallen in the city's Southside to the downtown area, Meteorologist Penny Harness said.

Other areas of the city saw less rainfall. Calallen, Flour Bluff and the island had about half an inch to an inch of rain, Harness said.

The heaviest rain fell along the coast in Corpus Christi, Portland and Rockport. Rockport had about 2 and a half inches of rainfall.

Heavy rain is expected to leave the area about noon Thursday.

AEP's outage map shows nearly 1,000 customers are experiencing power outages near South Padre Island Drive and Ennis Joslin Road. Power was expected to be restored about 10:30 a.m. No other major outages were shown in the city and surrounding areas.

Rainfall also caused localized flooding. Corpus Christi police said the underpass at Holly Road and State Highway 286 had high water. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.

Heavy rainfall is expected to clear out of the area by noon, though there is an opportunity for showers throughout the day, Harness said.

Winds will be about 20 to 30 mph through Thursday before nicer weather returns to the area.

Highs in the low to mid-60s are expected on Saturday and temperatures are expected to be in the 70s on Sunday.
