Local dealership donates car after UK fans flipped his

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — Some University of Kentucky fans are known to burn couches after moments of triumph but that wasn’t the case this past Saturday when fans took to State Street to celebrate.

A car was actually flipped and completely destroyed.

Matthew O’Hara, a fan from out of town, wishes he hadn’t parked in the middle of the celebration after UK broke a losing streak against the Florida Gators, the first in 31 years.

O’Hara says he parked his car at a friend’s house on State Street that night while they went to a party a few streets over.

“My friend Q saw a video on Twitter and he called me over and was like ‘Matt that looks like your car it’s getting flipped over on State Street,'” says O’Hara. ” I’m like there’s no way it’s my car so I double looked at the video and it looked like my car so we left.”

He says once he got there his car was no where to be found. But some of his stuff from inside the car was out in the yard nearby.

He says that’s when he knew it he was his car in the video and later found out it was taken to the impound lot.

Lexington Police say no one has been arrested for the damage but O’Hara says he recognizes one of the guys in the video.

“I would honestly just ask them like why are you flipping a car that’s really it,” O’Hara says. “I know it’s not targeted at me but like I don’t know what goes through someone’s thought process of wanting to destroy a car for some odd reason.”

His mom started a GoFundMe page and it’s already raised almost $3,000 in one day.

Now, a local car dealership is also stepping in to help out the family.

“So we are actually going to donate them a vehicle, we have a vehicle here that we picked out,” says Dustin Dzierzek, general sales manager at Big M Superstore in Nicholasville. “We’re gonna throw in a 2-year maintenance which will be oil changes and we’re gonna put in a warranty on the vehicle for them just to make sure it holds up.”

The dealership says after watching the video of Matt’s car being destroyed they knew they wanted to help.

“So I’m watching the video and it’s like crazy and you see the havoc being raised,” says Dzierzek. “All I could think about is that’s actually someones car.”

The dealership is giving Matt a 2005 Mazda 3, and it’s UK blue.
