North Nashville resident fatally shot in apparent robbery attempt

A 65-year-old man is dead after an apparent robbery attempt in North Nashville Tuesday night, police said.

According to Metro Nashville Police Department dispatch logs, officers responded to a shooting call just after 11 p.m. in the 1500 block of 14th Avenue North near Underwood Street.

A preliminary investigation shows Kenneth Brown was shot near his home and ran to a neighbor’s porch where he collapsed and died, MNPD reported.

His death marks the 39th criminal homicide in the city so far this year. Investigation by police homicide unit detectives indicates robbery is a potential motive for Brown’s slaying.

No suspect was in custody as of Wednesday.
