Joyce G. McKay, 78, of Groton CT passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Monday, December 30, 2019. Born in Bellows Falls, VT, she leaves the love of her life, husband Edward “Larry” McKay and two puppies, Bailey and Moxie. She is also survived by daughter Cheryl Sylvain and husband Brian of Berlin CT, son Brent McKay and wife Soraya of Mt. Pleasant SC, granddaughter Kaylene Sylvester and husband Jeffrey of Bristol CT, granddaughter Nicole Sylvain and boyfriend Greg Buck of Berlin CT, and grandson Cash McKay of Mt. Pleasant SC. She also leaves lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Betty Gilman, nieces Traci and Jodi and cousins Ginny, Barry and Harry. Joyce graduated from Keene Teachers College and was an elementary school teacher in Manchester CT. She left teaching to start their family and when Larry bought ELM Motors she did the bookkeeping for 28 years until they retired. Joyce and Larry were fortunate to be able to split their time between CT and SC to enjoy being with all their kids and grandkids every year. She was an avid Red Sox and NASCAR fan and loved watching tennis. Joyce and Larry enjoyed going out on their boat together and to car shows, loved playing cards and would often jump in the car on any given morning and head to VT, for breakfast. Her pastimes include reading, knitting/crocheting and participating in “Girls Shopping Weekend” every January for 20 years. Funeral services for Joyce will be held Saturday, January 11th with a Prayer Service at 10:30am at Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Square, New Britain.
