SHOOTING CAN CALL THE TIPS HOT LINE. >> A BLUE SPRINGS MAN IS IN THE HOSPITAL AFTER BEING SHOT BY OFFICIALS SERVING AN EVICTION AT HIS HOME. IT HAPPENED NEAR 7 HIGHWAY AND NORTHEAST DUNCAN ROAD. BIANCA IS LIVE WITH THE DETAILS. >> IT HAPPENED AT 9:00 THIS MORNING. DEPUTIES WITH THE JACKSON COUNTY COURT SERVING A WRIT OF EVICTION AND IN A STATEMENT THE COURT WROTE THAT DURING THE DEPUTIES INTERACTION WITH THE OCCUPANT OF THE HOUSE HE RETRIEVED AND DREW A WEAPON AT THEM. THE DEPUTIES SHOT THE MAN. THE MAN WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH SERIOUS INJURIES AND THE DEPUTIES ARE ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE WHILE BLUE SPRINGS POLICE INVESTIGATE. WE ASK WHETHER IT'S TYPICAL FOR THESE DEPUTIES TO CARRY ARMS WITH THEM DURING THIS PROCESS SEEING HOW THEY ARE PART OF THE JACKSON COUNTY COURT AND THIS IS WHAT THE POLICE CHIEF SAID. >> THEY NORMALLY CARRY WEAPONS AND CARRY WEAPONS ON EVICTIONS AND THEY HANDLE ALL EVICTIONS THROUGHOUT JACKSON COUNTY. >> SOMETIMES THEY WILL CALL US TO ASSIST IF THEY KNOW THERE WILL BE AN ISSUE BUT MOST OFTEN OR NOT THEY DO THESE BY THEMSELVES. >> AND COURT RECORDS SHOW THAT THE PETITION FOR EVICTION WAS FILED IN OCTOBER WHEN THE TENANT WAS BEHIND ABOUT TWO MONTHS WORTH OF RENT AND THAT EVICTION WAS APPROVED IN DECEMBER WHEN THAT AMOUNT HAD INCREASED AND THE DEFENDANT HAD NOT SHOWN UP FOR A HEARING. COURT RECORDS SHOW HE DID NOT SUBMIT A DECLARATION THAT WOULD ALLOW

A Blue Springs man remains hospitalized after being shot by officials serving an eviction at his home Friday morning.The shooting happened just after 9 a.m. near Highway 7 and Northeast Duncan Road as deputies of the Jackson County court were serving the writ of eviction.In a statement, the court wrote that during the deputies' interaction with the occupant of the house, he retrieved and drew a weapon on them and the deputies shot him.The man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.The deputies are now on paid administrative leave while Blue Springs police investigate. The police chief said the deputies are typically armed during this process."They normally carry weapons and they carry weapons on evictions, and they handle all evictions throughout Jackson County. Sometimes they call us to assist t if they know there will be an issue but most often than not, they do these by themselves," police Chief Bob Muenz said.Court records show the eviction was filed in October over nonpayment of rent.The defendant did not appear in court and did not file a declaration stating inability to pay.Officials with the Jackson County court system issued this statement:The Court has been made aware that two 16th Judicial Circuit Process Deputies were serving a writ this morning when at some point during their interaction with the occupant of the house, he retrieved and pointed a weapon at them. The deputies drew and ultimately discharged their weapons, striking the individual. The matter is being investigated by the Blue Springs Police Department. Pursuant to Court policy, the deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation. This is the extent of the available information the Court has to share at this time.
