CONROE, Texas - On the final day of the Scrap Yard Blizzard Challenge, Wichita State dropped both contests to finish the tournament at 2-2. The Shockers fell in game one vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi (5-1) and in the finale to No. 7 Texas in five innings (8-0).
Wichita State (2-2) scored just one run in the two games after scoring a combined 28 on the first day.
Sydney McKinney and
Bailee Nickerson were the only Shockers to record hits in game vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi. McKinney was 4-for-4 and Nickerson 3-for-3, while
Lauren Mills scored the lone run.
Caitlin Bingham pitched 3.0 innings in her first start of the season, allowing one run on three hits.
Hailey Martinez was saddled with the loss after giving up four runs in relief.
Wichita State plated the first run in the bottom of the second, but the Islanders even it at 1-1 in the top of the third. The Islanders would score four more in the fifth inning, proving to be the final margin.
Erin McDonald (1-1) got the start in the circle vs. the Longhorns and went just 3.0 innings, allowing all eight runs - seven earned - on eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Caitlin Bingham pitched the final inning, allowing a hit and a walk.
The bats were quiet, as the Shockers managed to record just one hit from Nickerson. Texas scored two runs in the first, four in the second and two more in the third.
