Freeport Community Foundation awards grants

The Freeport Community Foundation board of directors recently awarded grants totaling $86,258 to 13 area nonprofit organizations.

The grants were awarded from the Community Needs/Marvin Unrestricted Fund and the Craig Wilson Trust.

Organizations that were awarded grants include Cedarville Area Historical Society, which received $1,500; Blackhawk Area Council of Boy Scouts, which received $3,000; Winneshiek Playhouse, which received $3,300; the Workshop, which received $3,894; United Way of Northwest Illinois, which received $4,325; Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy, which received $5,000; Senior Resource Center, which received $5,000; German Valley Fire Police Department, which received $6,579; the Boys and Girls Club of Freeport and Stephenson County, which received $6,992; Northern Illinois Food Bank, which received $10,000; Timber Lake Playhouse, which received $15,000; and the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, which received $20,000.

This grant funding includes $7,500 from Compeer Financial and $5,000 from Citizens State Bank.

The Community Needs/Marvin Unrestricted Fund and the Youth Advisory Council have funded 36 grants for a total of $238,326.86 in 2020.

Freeport Community Foundation has a 45-year history as a community-based charitable organization.
