Services celebrating his life will be held at Noon on Tuesday, August 3, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Don was born on May 11, 1942 in Benton Harbor to Harrison and Ethel (Harper) Smith. He was a HVAC technician for the Benton Harbor Housing Commission for over 20 years before his retirement. Before being employed by the Housing Commission he was employed at a truck driver for Pepsi for about 10 years. After his retirement from the Housing Commission he continued to repair appliances with his own company called, Don’s Appliances. You could almost say that his hobby was working on and repairing appliances. Don was also a member of the Sportmans Club. He had a huge heart and was always taking care of everyone. Don was a giving individual to everyone.

His family includes his children, Rory Shurn of Milwaukee, Wi., Donald Eugene Smith, Jr. of Benton Harbor, Donovan Jones of Benton Harbor, Terrell Reddic of Benton Harbor, Terrecho Shurn of Atlanta, Ga., Che Jones of Kansas City, Mo., Manquell Sallie of Benton Harbor, and Damon Packer of Benton Harbor, his sisters, Patricia Higgins and Joyce Smith, both of Killeen, Tx., his very special friend and caregiver Doris Sallie of Benton Harbor, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Smith, his parents, and an older brother, Raymond Smith.
