Supermassive Games, the developer of the 2015 survival-horror game Until Dawn, has recently filed a trademark for a title called Shattered State. The filing of the trademark was done by Supermassive itself, which would suggest that Sony will not be publishing this upcoming title.

If Supermassive Games owns Shattered State by itself, this could mean that the upcoming title can be launched on any platform, which the developer wanted to do for quite some time now, when they expressed interest in releasing games on multiple platforms. Given the success of their past titles, Supermassive Games has been able to make a name for themselves especially in the horror genre.

It has been three years since Supermassive Games first released Until Dawn as a PlayStation exclusive, cementing their place in the horror games genre. The game was initially intended for the PlayStation 3 but was re-introduced to the PlayStation 4 instead. Until Dawn featured an immersive storyline full of horrifying plot twists and surprises around every corner. The game relied heavily on the choices players make, that would, in turn, dictate how the story will end.

After the success of Until Dawn, rumors and speculation began circulating about the possibility of a sequel to the game. Unfortunately, Supermassive revealed a couple of years ago that the studio is currently not developing Until Dawn 2 and would instead pursue other projects.

Until-Dawn-Group-Shot

Sony and Supermassive Games announced last year a new game to the Until Dawn franchise. This game is, of course, is Inpatient, which served as a prequel to Until Dawn and is set 60 years before the events of the full game. Inpatient was released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive earlier this year.

Currently, the developer hasn’t announced any details regarding the development of the new project - primarily if this upcoming game will fall into the horror genre. However, since Supermassive Games applied for the trademark for Shattered State on their own, it appears that Sony will not be involved in the project, which would mean that the upcoming game will not at all be related to Until Dawn.

Until Dawn and its prequel, Inpatient, are now available exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
