CASES AT PURDUE

These numbers come from Monday’s update of the Purdue COVID-19 dashboard. The figures include Purdue’s surveillance testing that picks 10 percent of the student population at random each week, along with regular COVID-19 tests for some employees.

Overall, since Aug. 1 and through Oct. 17: 1,278 people – 1,222 students and 56 employees – had tested positive out of 45,813 tests. That included eight additional student cases and no new cases among employees, when compared to the university’s COVID-19 dashboard tally from the day earlier. In on-campus testing of students and staff since Aug. 1, the positivity rate was 2.79 percent.

In cases shown in the most recent seven days: 131 people – including 122 students and nine Purdue employees – had tested positive in on-campus testing. That was from 5,545 tests in those seven days – Oct. 11-17 – for a positive rate of 2.36 percent.

Active cases on campus: Purdue reported that 209 of the 1,278 cases – including 199 students and 10 employees – were considered active.

Isolation beds on campus: The university reported that 71 of the 940 beds available to isolate students who test positive for COVID-19 were being used, according to the Purdue COVID-19 dashboard.

Purdue’s figures generally run a day behind those the Indiana State Department of Health provides for Tippecanoe County, as a whole, and the rest of the state.
