Meet the AL.com Super All-State volleyball team

Hoover dominated high school volleyball in 2020.

The Class 7A champions lost the first match of the season to McGill-Toolen then reeled off 52 straight wins to earn its first volleyball championship in program history.

Along the way, the Bucs beat Class 6A champion Mountain Brook three times, Class 5A champion Bayside Academy twice and also downed McGill-Toolen twice following the opening-season loss.

Hoover lost only eight sets all season, winning 122, and swept its final 16 matches.

Mountain Brook’s won its third straight title and fifth championship in the past eight seasons with the previous four coming in Class 7A.

Coach Ann Schilling guided Bayside Academy to an AHSAA-record 19th straight championship, breaking the national record with 29 total titles in program history. The Admirals also became the first state team to win titles in five different classes (5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A).

Hoover and Bayside each placed three players on the Super All-State team, compiled by the AL.com high school sports staff with input from coaches.
